DESCRIPTION

The Economist is an active international weekly newspaper published in magazine format. It was first established in 1843 by the Scottish economist James Wilson to muster support for the abolishment of the British Corn Laws. It gradually expanded to cover the United Kingdom's political economy and eventually featuring articles on current affairs, finance and commerce. It greatly expanded in the late 20th Century to include opinion columns, special reports, political cartoons, reader letters, cover stories, art critique, book reviews and technology features.

The Economist is now a global magazine with offices in several major cities across continental Europe, the United States, Asia and the Middle East and has a readership of 1.6 million. Individual articles are written anonymously to ensure the paper speaks with a collective voice.

The Internet Archive Collection contains microfilm published between 1843 and 2016.
